The International Sociological Association (ISA) Research Committee 19 (RC19) “Poverty, Social Welfare and Social Policy” annual conference this year was organized by the Institute of Sociology of the Lithuanian Center for Social Sciences. The conference took place in Vilnius on August 24-26, 2022. Scientists from Canada, the USA, Estonia, Italy, Israel, Japan, Norway, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Italy, Ireland, the Netherlands, and Lithuania presented and discussed their latest research. The conference was organized in a hybrid format, which involved a mixture of in-person and remote attendees. Congratulations to the conference organizing committee for a very successful conference! On 21-23 September, 2022 14th Annual TURI conference, organised by the European Trade Union Institute (ETUI) and the Institute of Sociology (IS LCSS) of the Lithuanian Centre for Social Sciences (LCSS) took place in Vilnius. The conference was attended and presentations were delivered by Liina Carr, Confederal Secretary of the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC), Philippe Pochet General Director of ETUI, Stan De Spiegelaere, Director Policy and Research at UNI Europa, Vytautas Šilinskas Vice Minister of the Ministry of Social Security and Labour of the Republic of Lithuania, Boguslavas Gruževskis, Director of the LCSS, Jūratė Jasiūnienė, representative of the Lithuanian Industry Trade Union Federation (LITUF) of the Lithuanian Trade Union Confederation (LTUC) as well as ETUI experts and members of TURI network from Austria, Denmark, Italy, Portugal, Slovakia, other EU countries. Conference participants discussed issue of European minimum wage, collective bargaining, role of trade unions in climate change policies and other issues. Agenda . Institute of Sociology of the Lithuanian Centre for Social Sciences has organized a seminar/workshop „Housing as a social right: situation in the EU and Lithuania“. The seminar took place on 23 of September 2022 in Vilnius. The purpose of the seminar was to discuss housing problems, to study at housing as a social right, not only as a good and/or a market element, and to bring together people working in the field of housing, both scientists and practitioners. Jolanta Aidukaite and Ruta Ubareviciene have presented their working paper “Assessing housing rights in the EU countries“.
There were other important presentations by the Lithuanian scientists and policy makers in the seminar. The seminar was attended by representatives from Vilnius city housing (Vilniaus miesto būstas), the Ministry of the Environment, the Ministry of Social Security and Labor, the Presidency, the Lithuanian Energy Institute, and Vilnius University.
